Hi, I'm Megan the creator of Saltwater Design! I'm based in Cork in the south of Ireland and I work from my kitchen table with my studio assistant Peig the cat for company.

Saltwater Design opened for business in March 2021, but its origins go back much further. As a child, I was always making and experimenting with different creative outlets. My mum is an artist and back then she used to make and sell jewellery. My sister and I wanted to be involved and loved to make beaded creations to wear, give as gifts and sell at Christmas markets.

I grew up in Mayo, right on the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland, and the beautiful ocean views and landscapes have always been a huge part of my life. I draw inspiration from those landscapes; the colours, textures and light which made up my childhood.

Due to some medical issues which began in 2019 and an extremely difficult 2020 both personally and well, globally, I found myself unable to work regularly. I thought "what have I got to lose?" and decided to follow a dream and start my own jewellery business. It started as something for myself, to be abe to explore my creativity and make a little bit of money, but the joy I get from creating something, seeing people getting their Saltwater packages, and then actually wearing my jewellery and coming back for more is just like nothing else. I've always loved making things for other people so I am beyond grateful that I can do it as a job.
